COVID-19 Guidelines

The below modifications shall be implemented for all SCHL events in accordance with USA Hockey, Massachusetts Hockey, and RI Hockey specific COVID-19 policies. In addition, all participants must follow all State and Municipal guidelines where their activities are being held.  

All players, coaches, spectators must adhere to each rink facilities respective COVID-19 guidelines.

Gameplay Procedures

Gameplay

  • All SCHL games will be played per USA Hockey rules.
  • Warm-up: 3 minutes
  • Period Length:
    • U8/U10/U12B-C: (3) – (12) min periods
    • U12A/U14: (3) – (15) min periods
    • U18: (2) – (22.5) min periods
  • Penalties:
    • U8/U10/U12B-C: minor – (1.5) min, major – (4) min, misconduct – (6) min
    • U12A/U14/U18: minor – (2) min, major – (5) min, misconduct – (10) min
  • Previous game modification related to Body Contact have been removed and games must follow current USA Hockey rules
  • No time-outs allowed. 
  • No overtime. If a game is tied after regulation, it will end in a draw.
  • Home teams will wear dark jerseys and away teams will wear white jerseys.
    • If a team only has one color jersey it is the responsibility of the coach to notify the opposing team prior to the game. 
    • It is recommended that teams bring both colored jerseys to games.
  • Scorekeeper will be provided by home team.
  • SCHL scoresheets will be provided to coaches. Upon completion of the game both teams are required to send a picture of completed scoresheet to: scores@southcoasthockeyleague.com

On-Ice

  • Players are required to wear a face covering at all times, including on the ice.
  • Coaches are required to wear a face covering at all times.
  • Officials are required to wear a face covering at all times.
  • Officials are encouraged to use electronic whistles and wear gloves to avoid skin to surface contact.
  • Referees to minimize player’s deliberate close contact at face-offs by socially distancing players prior to the drop of the puck.
  • Referees to minimize player’s deliberate close contact with quicker stoppage of play when puck scrums occur along boards or around goal creases.
  • Player are required to wear helmets and gloves at all times while on the ice and bench to avoid skin to surface contact.
  • Only (1) player per team is allowed in the penalty box. If there are simultaneous penalties for the same team, the second player must serve the entire penalty from the players bench and is ineligible to play until their penalty has expired.
  • Water bottles will not be shared.
  • There will be no handshake line after the game. Teams have the option to line up on the blue line and “stick salute” if they desire, but it is not required.

Off-Ice

  • Locker room availability varies per rink. Please visit Rink COVID-19 Regulations for more information.
  • Showering is not allowed.
  • All personal hockey equipment is prohibited from being shared.
  • Contact tracing protocol must be adhered to per state, local, CDC requirements.

Spectators

  • No more than (2) parents or guardians of the athlete and the athlete’s siblings may be present at an event.
  • All spectators are required to wear a face covering at all times.
  • Spectators must remain socially distanced while in the ice arena.
