What is SCHL Selects?

SCHL Selects is a tournament team made up of the top talent in the South Coast Hockey League. 
 
It provides the best players in the league with an opportunity to play a higher level of hockey at an affordable price, while continuing to play for their regular SCHL team.

Who is eligible to tryout?

  • Any player currently rostered on only an SCHL team is eligible to try out. It doesn't matter if you are on an A, B, or C team, we want to see you at tryouts! Dual rostered players that play on other AAA/AA teams are ineligible.

If I make an SCHL Selects team do I stop playing for my full-season team?

  • No! The SCHL Selects season will be supplemental to your full-season SCHL team. You will play on both teams, and if a conflict arises where your SCHL team has a game at the same time as a Selects game, you will play in your regular season SCHL game.

How many games do the Select teams play and will there be practices?

  • Each Selects team will play approx. 10 games - in tournaments or against AA teams across New England. Practices are not mandatory but will be scheduled for each team.

Tournament Schedule

How much does it cost?

  • Tryout fee $50 via cash, check payable to SCHL or money order due on 10/5 @ registration. 
  • Tuition is $380 and will cover tournament fees and ice costs. If a team has two goalies, each will pay half tuition, $190. 
  • Newly branded, reversible SCHL uniform shirts and socks are required for all players this year for $95. 
  • Players that are selected to join the team as alternates do not have to pay tuition, but they are required to purchase a uniform.

When are tryouts?

*Registration must be completed ONLINE by 10/3/24 - NO EXCEPTIONS. The sign in table will be open 1 hour before tryouts begin for payment collection and uniform sizing ONLY. U10, U12, and U14 schedules will be blacked out for games during these time slots.

  • U10: 2014 / 2015 birth years:

    • First Tryout: October 5th @ 4:00pm - Driscoll Arena

    • Call Backs for ALL registered and eligible players: October 19th @ 4:00pm - Driscoll Arena

  • U12: 2012 / 2013 birth years:

    • First Tryout: October 5th @ 5:00pm - Driscoll Arena

    • Call Backs for ALL registered and eligible players: October 19th @ 5:00pm - Driscoll Arena

  • U14: 2010/2011 birth years:

    • First Tryout: October 5th @ 6:00pm - Driscoll Arena

    • Call Backs Canceled

How will tryouts work?

  • SCHL hired a small group of independent evaluators to decide which players will make the team.
  • After the first tryout, SCHL will release a list of players that are invited to the Call Back tryout. This smaller pool of players will be split into two teams for a scrimmage. The final team will be decided from the Call Back tryout.

How many players will make the team?

  • Each team will consist of 17 players - 9 forwards, 6 defenseman, 2 goalies.
  • Each team will have 6 alternates - 3 forwards, 2 defenseman, 1 goalie.

Who is coaching the team?

  • We are looking for coaches! If interested, please reach out to selects@southcoasthockeyleague.com. Coaches will be selected after teams are finalized.
